Reminds Me of "Elsie Dinsmore"...

There is something about this pic of Zara, dressed up for church, that reminds me of the fictional character, Elsie Dinsmore, created by Martha Finley in the 1800s. We read the first Elsie book as a family read aloud last year, and we all fell in love with little Elsie, who had such devotion to Christ and love for her father.

Bread Making is FUN and.... MESSY!!!

We've been teaching our girls lately how to bake bread the old-fashioned way. (Think of how many wives and daughters have done this for centuries!!) We do this on a semi-regular basis-we do still buy some bread- but there's nothing like the taste and aroma of home-baked bread- not to mention the satsifaction of producing a staple food with our own hands- just like my Grandmothers did!!!

Every child should learn to bake bread. All the little lessons on leaven and sin come to life, as they perform the task. It also puts together the scriptures, "Give us this day our daily bread" AND "If you don't work you don't eat"!

It all helps bring perspective in our instant push-button techno world. How I love our "vintage" life!!
