Music To My Ears

It was the end of a particularly long day. It was a day of many unavoidable interruptions, people dropping in (all important stuff), and the girls had done a pretty good job continuing their homeschool throughout background noise and "Twin Breaks".

We got through the schoolday all pretty exhausted, with a few small things undone, and I let the girls go for a run outside, while I tended the babies.

Finally come night I was preparing dinner ( a couple of hours late), and I was delighted to see Talitha at the table unasked finishing off her colouring page from school, with Zara beside her- not fighting or arguing :-) but copying out of a book, practising her letters for fun, no pressure, no nothing...

And then... they began singing together... tunefully... O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing- our current weekly homeschool hymn- It was beautiful... Music to my Ears and soul... I silently praised the Lord in my heart as I worked... Harmony... Togetherness... Loving the Lord... Loving each other... working diligently... The "bad" days faded from view- This is why we homeschool...

Delight in the Creation, Worship our Maker

This simple poem was given to us by friends this Easter season. It is good to remember all year round. May we with the simple faith of a child, delight in the real things of this world- not the hurry and flurry of materialism and consumerism- but the real things- the joys of Creation, and may each thought draw us closer to the Creator, who loved us enough to die in our place for our sins...
Lord, You have risen forever
In my heart!
May the sunrise
Remind me to shine in Your light.
May the caress of a gentle breeze
Remind me of your compassion.
May the fragrance of a flower
Remind me to blossom in Your love.
May the singing of birds
Bring a song of joy to my lips.
And in the closing of each day
May I remember to quietly pray.
Wherever I am, whatever I do
May my thoughts in joy return to you!

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross...

When I survey the wondrous Cross

On which the Prince of Glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss,

And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord. that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ, my God:

All the vain things that charm me most,

I sacrifice them to His blood.

See, from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingled down:

Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were an offering far too small;

Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all.

By Isaac Watts, 1674-1748

Happy Happenings at The Roberts Home

Here are some of the things that have brought smiles lately:

- Zara aged 5 making her first ever proper sandwich from scratch with the "homemade" tomato she picked from the garden herself.

-Zara beginning to read and her mighty efforts in learning her times tables.

-Talitha is loving reading aloud, and to practice she is reading a bit from The King James Bible daily. I nearly burst myself with laughter, while she was reading one of the accounts of The Christmas Story and poor Mary ended up being EXPOSED to Joseph instead of ESPOUSED! (Isn't she beautiful?)

-Hubby dear has been collecting as many of the Little House on the Prairie DVDs as he can get his hands on. We are really enjoying laughing and crying over these as a family. I remember growing up with this show. I've also read aloud Little House in the Big Woods to the girls.

- The Twins bring many smiles just by being cute. They are the first thumb-suckers I've had, and I think they're going to like "blankies" like Zara. One of them-Zachary, I think- brought smiles recently by making tuneful baby noises on my lap during hymn singing time with the girls.

We feel truly blessed!
