What Books are You Enjoying at the Moment?

What books are you reading & enjoying ( or not enjoying), at the moment? Blogs are a great way to compare notes on what is worth looking at or not.

Here is our current list:

Me:

-King James Bible (Bible in a year program)

-Uncle Tom's Cabin- by Harriet Beecher Stowe

-All of Grace- by Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Just As I Am- by Billy Graham

-Holiness- by J C Ryle ( soon to begin)

Hubby:

-King James Bible

-A John Bunyan biography

-The Master's Indwelling- by Andrew Murray

Children's Devotions:

-Leading Little Ones to God- Marion M Schoolland

-Volume 2 The Bible Story- by Arthur Maxwell (We work through this set slowly. Some nights we leave it out if the girls are too tired. Occasionally they pick a story from another volume. I love the reverent art work in these books, but they are S.D.A denomination, so if you get them, there's the occasional spot where you may have to alter something.)

Family Read-a Loud:

-Anne of Green Gables- by L M Montgomery

Plus numerous just for fun books, old fashioned children's books, library books etc.

What's in your reading pile at the moment?

All of Grace

"All of Grace" by C.H.Spurgeon, is one of the most treasured items on my bookshelf. It's been many years since I first read it, and I still remember how impossible it was to lay it down, & the buckets of tears I shed while reading it. I was already a Christian at the time, but never had I heard the way of Salvation so simply & beautifully expressed. Oh, for God to raise up more preachers like Spurgeon, who don't water down the gospel message!
If you've never read it, I urge you to & I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Here is another quote from "The Prince of Preachers":
Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. It is a very surprising thing- a thing to be marvelled at most of all by those who enjoy it. I know that it is to me, even to this day, the greatest wonder that I have ever heard of- that God should ever justify ME. I feel myself to be a lump of unworthiness, a mass of corruption, and a heap of sin apart from His almighty love. I know and am fully assured that I am justified by faith which is in Christ Jesus. I am treated as if I had been perfectly just and made an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ. And yet by nature I must take my place among the most sinful. I, though altogether undeserving, am treated as if I had been deserving. I am loved with as much love as if I had always been godly, whereas before I was ungodly. Who can help being astonished at this? Gratitude for such favour stands dressed in robes of wonder.

God Loves You...

From Charles Haddon Spurgeon, The Prince of Preachers:
I beseech thee be reconciled to God, because in this there is proof that God is loving you. Thou thinkest God to be a God of wrath. Would He have given His own Son to be punished if He had hated thee? Sinner, if God had anything but thoughts of love towards thee, I ask, would He have given up His Son to hang upon the cross? Think not my God a tyrant; think Him not a wrathful God, destitute of mercy. His Son, torn from His bosum and given up to die, is the best proof of His love...
Throw yourself upon the mercy of God this Easter, He loves you and will not turn you away!
